We should ask David to rethink git. Hosting freetype on freedesktop.orgmay also be very benefitial to attract top developers. Imagine freetype on http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/ . Wouldn't that be great if it is possible?[1] And yes, I tried git when working on Cairo, lost my work three times in a row; I'm a bit disgusted and won't try it again with FreeType until the developers fix the stupid interface, which apparently is very unlikely...I like git very much: Using the git on Savannah, the work with lilypond is really fun. And `gitk' (a git repository viewer) just rocks.
Please look at mercural (http://www.selenic.com/mercurial/wiki/index.cgi) too: a fast, lightweight Source Control Management system designed for efficient handling of very large distributed projects.
It's realy easy to work with it, there is a lot of docs on siteseveral big projects use it or have un-official mirror http://www.selenic.com/mercurial/wiki/index.cgi/ProjectsUsingMercurial
It has binaries for all major platform - linux, osx, windows It also has gui viewer hgtk (direct port of the gitk tool used with git) And it can be synced with cvs on cron too -- Pavel
