That does not help.  Still get garbage from Render_Text, even though
it is trying (per gdb runs) to display the characters specified in
*Text.  They /are/ getting corrupted somewhere.

Again, this is not affecting anything else I have available to test,
only ftview and compatriots, so it is not enormously critical.
