Actually, since the instructing is AFAIK¹ targeted to bitmap rendering
rather than greymap rendering, it works (for the particular font I
mentioned, Carter's Georgia family) very well in its intended
application.  Only when rendering with aa and instructions on do the
dropouts occur.
