I just upgraded from 2.0.9 to 2.1.0.

Ftview and ftstring are now partially broken.

Ftview, when toggled to use Render_Text, displays garbage characters
instead of the string *Text defined in ftcommon.i.  

I've stepped though it in gdb and do not see the problem.  It is at a
lower level than Render_Text....

In the case of ftstring, it is OK with ttf and otf fonts, but displays
nothing with type1 fonts.  I've not yet gdbed this one, though.

I'll work on a better bug report, but I wanted to get this much out,
in case it is something obvious I'm missing.

Xft1 has no problems with 2.1.0.  I don't seem to have anything else
that is dynamically linked to libfreetype.so.6 to test....
