Fixed, on main. This is a workaround, but it was suggested by
Stefan (Emacs maintained) that changing visibility in the modification
hooks might be unsafe in general.

For unrelated reasons, `kill-whole-line' in Emacs will also be changed
to not use multi-step edit.
