Just to confirm: It also works with Org 9.6 for me. Thanks for looking into this!

OK, I will try. I start emacs with ... Org mode version 9.5.5 (release_9.5.5 @ /snap/emacs/current/usr/share/emacs/28.2/lisp/org/)
I can also reproduce with this Org version.
But not with Org 9.6 (the latest release).
