Would people please take this discussion off the list emacs-devel?

This list is for discussing practical questions about what to do in
Emacs development.  That discussion of semantics doesn't contribute,
it is a tangent about semantics.

Having disputes like this on the list makes the list unpleasant,
so please move it.
