Dear Cornelia,
This is what happens for me:
$ ls test*
test.dvi test.tex
$ dvipng test.dvi
This is dvipng 1.15 Copyright 2002-2015 Jan-Ake Larsson
[1]
$ ls test*
test1.png test.dvi test.tex
janla64@janla64-HP-EliteBook-840-G6:~$ dvipng test.dvi -o test.png
This is dvipng 1.15 Copyright 2002-2015 Jan-Ake Larsson
[1]
$ ls test*
test1.png test.dvi test.png test.tex
$
So, it works for me.
Best regards
Jan-Åke

I use intensively dvipng to convert tex to png.
However I can not configure the Programm to make it keeping the original file
Name.
For example : xyz.dvi is converted to xyz1.dvi
How can I fix it to get xyz.png out of the conversion?
I tried the Option -o but it did not work.
Thanks For a response
