Oh, it could be that my changes to save font size in the settings file
have broken this. I never paid any
attention to the extra -size parameters (WinBord does not have that). I
will check it.
Beware that for the linegap to be effective -overrideLinegap has to be
-1, or it ould be intentionally overruled.

What are you talking about? There is no -overrideLinegap option.

2) The default values should always work

It is debatable what that means, because the default language is
English. So any translation is by definition
non-default. But I agree it is preferable if things would work 'out of
the box' in ay language. But it is up to
the translators to see to it that size-critical translations do fit.

I would rather say that the default language is decided by environment variables.

Besides if the developers have special demands to the translations it should be communicated to the translatirs with translator comments in the source. Translators aren't mindreaders.
