There are quite a few changes in CVS at the moment... apart from
internationalization there are new features (mousewheel support) and several
bugfixes, I counted about 60 commits.

H.G.: BTW how come you are at x.x.16? do you have a snapshot for all the
version 1-16? that might help the merging process.

How about the following:

1) we release the code that is on savannah at the moment as 4.2.8.
2) add Allessandro's and your code as 4.3.x keeping the same version numbers as
you have. Guess we just give them the same name (e.g. tag in CVS) and don't
really release a compiled version, since there would be too many in a short
time, but this way whenever people refer to say 4.3.14 we at least all talk
about almost the same version...
3) do an official release of 4.3.15 (or perhaps 16 by then)

We would then end up with 4.3.15 which would be your
code+internationalization+changes from 4.2.7->4.2.8.
We then port to gtk and call it 5.0, since we get quite a few changes that come
with gtk and only will have one codbase for both GUIs.

cheers
