Follow-up Comment #1, bug #64354 (project groff):
I like this feature and have used it in my software which generates troff
output from other sources. It's advantage is that it does not clutter up name
space for a colour which may be used only once.
Also, it seems to be used in our own documents:-
[derij@pip build (new-gropdf)]$ ./pic ../doc/pic.ms | fgrep "\D'F" | ct
\&\D'Fg 0.100' 1
\&\D'Fg 0.600' 1
\&\D'Fg 0.500' 6
\&\D'Fg 1.000' 8
\&\D'Fg 0.000' 26
Total 42
I suppose if our normal 20+ years for deprecation is used, I won't be here.

Also, you don't explain why you consider this a layering volation, when all
other \D'x' result in Dx output as well. The other colour controls all deal in
colour names, but if you want to compute a colour this is the boy for you, it
serves a different purpose.
