DF is an output device command.
That does not mean that the \D'F ...' escape sequence needs to be.
("It's a layering violation!")
There are ample facilities in the groff language for fill color selection.
Users should employ those, not an "expert mode" sneaky trick (which provides
no benefit apart from the dubious one of not having to assign a color an
identifier before using it).
