From: G. Branden Robinson
Subject: [bug #62825] Incorrect section number using \*($n in a header
Date: Wed, 27 Jul 2022 16:33:30 -0400 (EDT)

Update of bug #62825 (project groff):

                  Status:               Duplicate => None
             Open/Closed:                  Closed => Open

Follow-up Comment #2:

Sorry, I misunderstood the report in haste.

This is indeed a different issue.

I'm not sure what assumptions can be made about me(7)'s behavior when you take
over the `$c` macro for chapter headings but never use the documented
mechanism for advancing the chapter number, which is to call the `+c` macro.

I'll try to come up with what I think of as an "idiomatic" version of your
example (after consulting meref.me) and see if I can identify any points of
confusion, or missing documentation.
