Εύρηκα!

I compared with other keys present in Firefox,
created a Boolean browser.urlbar.formatting.enabled
and set to true. Now the trim is gone for good.

Unlike official Firefox binaries, my builds of Icecat 7.0 and 7.0.1
do not have keys

browser.urlbar.formatting.enabled
browser.urlbar.trimURLs

set on arrival, just FYI.
