Subject: [Bug-gnubg] installing GNUbg in Yosemite. Xquartz; command line syntax to enable/disable Xquartz over X11.

Hello

I have used Gnu Backgammon for some time on windows machines (many thanks) and want to install on my main (mac) computer.

I have installed XQuartz, downloaded from the link provided on the GNUBackgammon Site.

It is this note that has confused me a little:

=== Default X11 Server ===

If this is your first time installing XQuartz, you may wish to logout and log back in.  This will update your DISPLAY environment variable to point to XQuartz.app rather than X11.app.  If you would prefer to keep using X11.app as your default server (you can still launch XQuartz.app manually), you'll want to disable /Library/LaunchAgents/org.macosforge.xquartz.startx.plist using launchctl(1).

For the sake of simplicity and keeping track of where I am, I would prefer to keep X11 as my default server.  I can run launchctl in terminal but don’t know the syntax to use to “disable /Library/LaunchAgents/org.macosforge.xquartz.startx.plist”, nor how to “launch XQuartz.app manually”.  There was some mention of a readme in the Xquartz dmg but I can’t find one in my download.

Any help would be much appreciated.  I understand what the plist and Quartz are, it is just the necessary steps which I am struggling with.

Otherwise I will just have to use the default settings for now, until I understand how the system & syntax works.

Thanks again for GNU Backgammon, I have spent many hours refining my skills with it.  I hope you don’t mind me bothering you with this minor problem.

Regards
