Thanks for the tips.. I just thought it would be easier to set up positons if
gnu could allow you to simply specify "I'm bearing off in this (bottom left)
corner" rather than having to go into settings and switch each player's
colour. We communicate something like this when we set up a given position
in real life.

Anyway, regarding the (horrible) position I was in our local finals last
night..

I was actually more focussed on 'hit and make a some kind of board to delay

You probably couldn't see, but the match score was 8-10 to my opponent (up
to 11 post-Crawford) so losing a gammon didn't matter to me. He'd already
taken my immediate cube.

I would play 6/3 14/12.

I was tempted by that, but over the board I played 7/5* 6/3 desperately
leaving a blot on the 5-pt and as you can see from the screenshot he danced.
I then rolled 4-1 and even then did not play 'safe'. He came in and hit with
5-1. I danced 6-2 and lost.

The reason I wanted to check this was because on the way home I was kicking
myself for not playing the 4-1 safe and was unsure about the preceding 3-2
but I feel marginally happier seeing that gnu agrees with my 2 desperate
plays.

Lesson 1 for me: Try to stick to the 'pure game' no matter the risk
Lesson 2 for me: Sometimes an inferior move works out better
Lesson 3: Lessons 1 and 2 are somewhat contradictory.
