Just as a follow up. I was able to compile GNUBG previously with GTK
OS/X ( http://gtk-osx.sourceforge.net/ ). This interfaces with the
Quartz back-end for the display. There are some issues with rendering
the 3D(it renders with a couple problems). If I have a chance to get
back to it I'd see if I could resolve them. It would allow us to remove
the burden of using the X11 back end.
On a side note, the 3D rendering issues may actually be a function of
newer GTK+ releases and not the OS/X port itself.
