The problem *may* be that, as you can tell from the version, the build in
Debian and in Ubuntu is fairly old.  This could have been a problem that
was subsequently fixed in CVS.  I've been trying to find time to refresh
the packaging but haven't found it yet; I'll try harder.  :)
