It is funny, but isn't it the "correct" play by X? If X doesn't double, he is certain to lose the match. If X doubles and O passes (not a likely response!) then X survives. So the "correct" play by X is to double, which O accepts. Now X has no way to avoid losing the match, so X resigns. I guess the magnitude of the loss doesn't matter to X.
