Hi Randy,
I don't think that anybody is working on making new osx builds of GNU
backgammon. Apparently, it is not that easy to set up the build
environment and make a package for general use. Somebody named joerg
tried to make packages for the previous osx, but I don't know what
became of it. You can search the mailing list and contact him if you
like.
Sadly, I know next to nothing about osx myself.
