On win32 the alternative to gdkx.h is gdkwin32.h

in this file GDK_DISPLAY is defined to be NULL so the code won't have
any effect. Before I changed the configure files the lines where
protected by a HAVE_GDKXH and therefore not used on native windows.
gdkx.h is present in cygwin though.

Since these lines are not used on windows and doesn't apperar
nessecary on linux, my guess is that we can remove them. The way the
code is commented makes me think that it is written by gary wong and
that makes it quite old, likely older than the gtk interface.
