It was removed because it was meant to help out on glibc 2.0.x systems (ca. 20 years ago). The other platforms where it was applicable were Solaris - which nowadays has a decent 'iconv' facility - and OSF/1 - which can be considered dead for more than 10 years. On which platform and for which purpose did you need the libiconv preloadable library? Bruno
