This error occurs when the lib/aliases.gperf file has CRLF as line terminator,
rather than the usual LF. Where does it come from? It depends how you got the
files, and how the Cygwin mount where you stored the file is configured.
So, you need to convert back the lib/aliases.gperf file to its initial format
(by removing the CR characters).

The manual is written for the people who download the tarball.
You apparently downloaded the git repository, therefore you need to peek at
the 'HACKING' file first. The 'HACKING' file mentions the need to run
'./autogen.sh'.
