Yes, I'm sure.
If you grep 'appdata' on this file:
https://l10n.gnome.org/POT/geary.mainline/geary.mainline.pot
you get 14 occurrences.
If you do the same on your system you get 68 occurrences.
I see now that the problem was that I did not have libappstream-glib-devel
installed. After installing it, the pot file contains the release strings.
I think GNOME projects using gettext should add this dependency. Especially
the server hosting Damned Lies, which generates pot and po files for
translators.
I will report this issue to GNOME admins.
I think you can close this issue.
