I would have loved to include your fix. But unfortunately it causes
a failure in 'make distcheck':

ERROR: files left after uninstall:

./tmp/gettext/gettext-20190510/_inst/share/info/dir
Makefile:673: recipe for target 'distuninstallcheck' failed
make[1]: *** [distuninstallcheck] Error 1

and I don't know how to fix that.

So I've used another fix instead:
