[bug-gettext] Problems using upstream gettext instead glib gettext

Hello,

Im trying to push for the use of upstream gettext instead the GLib one in GNOME.
But we have problems when porting, you can see an explanation in [1]

For gdk-pixbuf, for example, was decided to use a kind of ugly patch
in autogen.sh to make the .pot files old enough so .po doesnt get
updated see [2]

I wonder if a better solution exist?
