And on the apparent reason for asking, whether or not to

   'put ANSI escape sequences into ed'

there was a bit of smoke that came out my ears, apparently
from the 'stuck in the mud old fart lobe' of my brain.

I hope that sort of change doesn't happen, as I'd be concerned
that it has downsides.  For example, how could I then edit the
individual bytes in multibyte ANSI sequence using 'ed'? 

Or if not that, then some other detail change in just what bytes
do what will bite some use case in the butt.
