+<p>Estas son las principales razones por las cuales las universidades y las
+escuelas de todos los niveles deben utilizar exclusivamente software libre.</p>
+
+<h3>Compartir</h3>
+
+<p>Las escuelas deberían enseñar el valor de compartir dando el ejemplo. El
+software libre favorece la educación pues permite compartir conocimientos y
+herramientas:</p>
+
+<ul>
+<li><strong>Conocimiento</strong>. Muchos jóvenes estudiantes tienen talento
+para programar, están fascinados con las computadoras y ansiosos por
+aprender cómo funcionan. Con el software privativo esta información es
+secreta, por lo tanto los profesores no tienen forma de ponerla a
+disposición de los alumnos. Pero si es software libre, el profesor puede
+explicar el tema básico y luego entregar el código fuente a los alumnos para
+que puedan leerlo y aprender.</li>
+</ul>
+
+<ul>
+<li><strong>Herramientas</strong>. Los profesores pueden entregar a los
+estudiantes copias de los programas que se usan en clase para que los
+utilicen también en casa. Con el software libre, copiar no sólo está
+permitido sino que además se incentiva.</li>

+
+<h3>Responsabilidad social</h3>
+
+<p>La computación ha pasado a ser una parte esencial de la vida diaria. La
+tecnología digital está transformando la sociedad muy rápidamente y las
+escuelas ejercen una influencia decisiva en el futuro de la sociedad. Su
+misión es preparar a los estudiantes para que participen en una socidad
+digital libre, mediante la enseñanza de habilidades que les permitan tomar
+el control sus propias vidas con facilidad. El software no debe estar bajo
+el poder de un desarrollador de software que toma decisiones unilaterales
+que nadie más puede cambiar. Las instituciones educativas no deben permitir
+que las empresas de software propietario impongan su poder sobre el resto de
+la sociedad y su futuro.</p>

+<h3>Independencia</h3>
+
+<p>Las escuelas tienen la responsabilidad ética de enseñar la fortaleza, no 
la
+dependencia de un único producto o de una poderosa empresa en
+particular. Aún más, al elegir software libre, la misma escuela gana
+independencia de cualquier interés comercial y evita permanecer cautiva de
+un único proveedor.</p>

universidades
+como trampolines  para llegar a los usuarios y así poder imponer su software
+a toda la sociedad. Ofrecen descuentos y hasta copias gratuitas de sus
+programas propietarios a las instituciones educativas y de esa manera clos
+alumnos aprenden a utilizarlos y terminan por depender de ellos. Una vez que
+esos estudiantes se hayan graduado, a ninguno de ellos ni a sus futuros
+empleadores se les ofrecerán copias con descuentos. En otras palabras, lo
+que hacen estas empresas es reclutar escuelas y universidades para
+transformarlas en agentes comerciales cuya función es dirigir a las personas
+hacia una larga dependencia de por vida.</li>

+<li>Las licencias de software libre no expiran, lo cual significa que una vez
+que ha sido adoptado, las instituciones conservan su independencia del
+vendedor. Más aún, las licencias de software libre garantizan a los usuarios
+el derecho no sólo de utilizar el software como deseen, copiarlo y
+distribuirlo, sino también de mofificarlo con el fin de adaptarlo a sus
+necesidades personales. Por lo tanto, en caso de que las instituciones
+necesiten implementar una función en particular en el software que han
+elegido, pueden contratar a cualquier desarrollador para que realice la
+tarea, independientemente del vendedor original.</li>

+<h3>Aprendizaje</h3>
+
+<p>En la búsqueda de una institución para estudiar, son cada vez más los
+estudiantes que toman en cuenta si la universidad enseña ciencias de la
+computación y desarrollo de software utilizando software libre. El motivo es
+que con el software libre los estudiantes tienen la libertad de examinar
+cómo funcionan los programas y de aprender cómo adaptarlos si fuera
+necesario. Con el software libre se aprende también la ética del desarrollo
+de software y la práctica profesional.</p>

+<h3>Ahorro</h3>
+
+<p>Esta es una ventaja obvia que percibirán inmediatamente muchos
+administradores de instituciones educativas, pero se trata de un beneficio
+marginal. El punto principal de este aspecto es que, por estar autorizadas a
+distribuir copias de los programas a bajo costo o gratuitamente, las
+escuelas pueden realmente ayudar a las familias que se encuentran en
+dificultad económica, con lo cual promueven la equidad y la igualdad de
+oportunidades de aprendizaje entre los estudiantes.</p>

+<p>These are the main reasons why universities and schools of all 
+levels should use exclusively Free Software.</p>
+
+<h3>Sharing</h3>
+
+<p>Schools should teach the value of sharing by setting an example. Free 
+software supports education by allowing the sharing of knowledge and 
+tools:</p>
+
+<ul>
+<li><strong>Knowledge</strong>. Many young students have a talent for 
+programing; they are fascinated with computers and eager to learn how their 
+systems work. With proprietary software, this information is a secret so 
+teachers have no way of making it available to their students. But if it is 
+Free Software, the teacher can explain the basic subject and then hand out 
+the source code for the student to read and learn.</li>
+</ul>
+
+<ul>
+<li><strong>Tools</strong>. Teachers can hand out to students copies of the 
+programs they use in the classroom so that they can use them at home. With 
+Free Software, copying is not only authorized, it is encouraged.</li>
+</ul>
+
+<h3>Social Responsibility</h3>
+
+<p>Computing has become an essential part of everyday life. Digital 
+technology is transforming society very quickly, and schools have an 
+influence on the future of society. Their mission is to get students 
+ready to participate in a free digital society by teaching them the 
+skills to make it easy for them to take control of their own lives. 
+Software should not be under the power of a software developer who 
+unilaterally makes decisions that nobody else can change. Educational 
+institutions should not allow proprietary software companies to impose 
+their power on the rest of society and its future.</p>
+
+<h3>Independence</h3>
+
+<p>Schools have an ethical responsibility to teach strength, not dependency 
+on a single product or a specific powerful company. Furthermore, by 
+choosing to use Free Software, the school itself gains independence from 
+any commercial interests and it avoids vendor lock-in.</p>
+
+<ul>
+<li>Proprietary software companies use schools and universities as a 
+springboard to reach users and thus impose their software on society as
+a whole. They offer discounts, or even gratis copies of their proprietary 
+programs to educational institutions, so that students will learn to use 
+them and become dependent on them. After these students graduate, neither 
+them nor their future employers will be offered discounted copies.
+Essentially, what these companies are doing is they are recruiting schools 
+and universities into agents to lead people to permanent lifelong 
+dependency.</li>
+</ul>
+
+<ul>
+<li>Free software licenses do not expire, which means that once Free 
+Software is adopted, institutions remain independent from the vendor. 
+Moreover, Free Software licenses grant users the rights not only to 
+use the software as they wish, to copy it and distribute it, but also 
+to modify it in order to meet their own needs. Therefore, if 
+institutions eventually wish to implement a particular function in a 
+piece of software, they can engage the services of any developer to 
+accomplish the task, independently from the original vendor.</li>
+</ul>
+
+<h3>Learning</h3>
+
+<p>When deciding where they will study, more and more students are 
+considering whether a university teaches computer science and software 
+development using Free Software. Free software means that students are 
+free to study how the programs work and to learn how to adapt them for 
+their own needs. Learning about Free Software also helps in studying 
+software development ethics and professional practice.</p>
+
+<h3>Saving</h3>
+
+<p>This is an obvious advantage that will appeal immediately to many school 
+administrators, but it is a marginal benefit. The main point of this 
+aspect is that by being authorized to distribute copies of the programs 
+at little or no cost, schools can actually aid families facing financial 
+issues, thus promoting fairness and equal opportunities of learning 
+among students.</p>
+
+<h3>Quality</h3>
+
+<p>Stable, secure and easily installed Free Software solutions are 
+available for education already. In any case, excellence of performance 
+is a secondary benefit; the ultimate goal is freedom for computer users.</p>
