+<p> Molts usuaris de <a href="/gnu/linux-and-gnu.ca.html">GNU/Linux</a>
+veuen aquesta sistema com un competidor per a Microsoft. Però el
Moviment del Programari Lliure aspira a resoldre un problema molt més
important que el de Microsoft: el del programari privatiu, que es dissenya per
mantenir als usuaris impotents i prohibir la col·laboració.
Microsoft és el fabricant més gran d'aquest tipus de programari,
però moltes altres companyies tracten igual de malament la llibertat
dels usuaris; si no han encadenat tants usuaris com Microsoft no és pas
per falta de ganes.</p>

+Com que Microsoft només és una part del problema, la seva
derrota en el plet antimonopoli no és necessàriament una
victòria per al programari lliure. Que el resultat d'aquest plet ajudi
el programari lliure i promogui les llibertats dels usuaris dependrà de
les sancions específiques que el jutge imposi a Microsoft.</p>

+Si les sancions es dissenyen per permetre que altres companyies competeixin
oferint programari privatiu, el Món Lliure no n'obtindrà cap
benefici. Poder escollir entre un seguit de possibles amos no és
llibertat. És més, la competència podria portar-los a
realitzar una feina "millor", millor en el sentit estrictament
tècnic; i llavors ens podria resultar més difícil
"competir-hi" tècnicament. Nosaltres seguirem oferint a
l'usuari una cosa que aquestes companyies no ofereixen: llibertat. I els
usuaris que valorin la llibertat continuaran escollint el programari lliure per
aquesta raó. Però els usuaris que no apreciïn la llibertat,
i escullin un sistema simplement per conveniència, podrien sentir-se
atrets pels sistemes privatius "millorats".</p>

+Dividir Microsoft en companyies diferents podria també ser
perillós per al programari lliure, perquè aquestes companyies
petites, al no estar en el punt de mira d'un públic predisposat a
condemnar Microsoft, podrien considerar convenient atacar el programari lliure
amb més duresa que l'actual Microsoft unida.</p>

+per a aquest cas que ajudarien al programari lliure a competir amb Microsoft;
per exemple, requerir a Microsoft que publiqui documentació sobre totes

defensa, no com a agressió. Aquestes solucions bloquejarien l'ús
de les armes que Microsoft planeja utilitzar contra nosaltres (segons els
"Halloween Documents" que es van filtrar des de dins de Microsoft,

sistema GNU/Linux).</p>
