Details:

If a PRIVMSG is received with a target of "#channelname", things work
properly; however if a message is sent just to channel ops or voiced e.g.
"+#channelname" or "@#channelname" then the client makes the (common) mistake
of treating it as a PM since the target didn't match any known channel.

Instead the message should be shown in-channel but possibly with some
qualifier to indicate that not everyone received it.  Also it would be nice to
provide an easy way to reply in kind.
