I have not really delved to deep into Globus, so what
I say is not authoratitive at all, just some initial
impressions. From what I understand, Globus works at
a low level functional interface between networked
machines. It is not in itself a p2p cluster. It is
the parts from which various kinds of shared resource
systems can be assembled for specific purposes. This
includes administrative functions such as
authinitication, billing, and user resource allocation
as much as the technical protocol hooks.

Their docs suggest that various kinds of specific
configurations can be assembled, using their
components. So what you suggest might be possible.
However, Globus is not under GPL but under the Globus
Toolkit Public License. I don't know if this is an
approved "open source" license, but it does included
the following:

8) LICENSEE AGREES THAT THE EXPORT OF GOODS AND/OR
TECHNICAL DATA FROM THE UNITED STATES MAY REQUIRE SOME
FORM OF EXPORT CONTROL LICENSE FROM THE U.S.
GOVERNMENT AND THAT FAILURE TO OBTAIN SUCH EXPORT
CONTROL LICENSE MAY RESULT IN CRIMINAL LIABILITY UNDER
U.S. LAWS.

That is enough in my mind to discard the usefullness
of the system in the real world.

However, there may be very usefull ideas in the system
that might prove imformative and educational about
approaching similar problems in the VRS.

Oh yes. There is quite a bit more to it. Have a look
throught their site at:

www.globus.org

and see what you think.
