It really is a change between 9.7 and 9.8 too, I have vile 9.8
installed in /usr/local/bin and vile 9.7 in /usr/bin, they're both
64-bit versions.

    chris$ file /usr/local/bin/vile /usr/local/bin/vile: ELF 64-bit LSB
executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs),
for GNU/Linux 2.6.15, not stripped
    chris$ file /usr/bin/vile /usr/bin/vile: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64,
version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.15,
stripped
    chris$ /usr/local/bin/vile -V
    vile version 9.8 for linux-gnu, installed Tue Aug 10 13:58:29 2010
    chris$ /usr/bin/vile -V
    vile version 9.7s for linux-gnu, installed Mon Jun 15 23:03:07 2009

'/usr/bin/vile -k <pwd> <file>' works OK, '/usr/local/bin/vile -k
<pwd> <file>' doesn't work.
