It's probably worth seeing how far tramp can get without any such
specialized executable on the remote host. After all, one of Tramp's
big pluses is the very fact that it works out-of-the-box with any
random remote host.

You'd also want a tool like this to build on a wide range of
platforms, which means putting in a lot of work to keep it portable.

So... scratch this, on second thought it doesn't look like a very good idea.
