Tramp shall not care which vc backend is used. The integration with vc
hasn't been touched for a while.

I don't know which Tramp version you are using. The recent one is 2.1.12.
If it happens with that version as well, you might file a bug report
(including the debug buffer at tramp-verbose level 8), which will
provide more information.
