In May 2004, there was the feature freeze for Emacs 22. Because of
this we've branched to Tramp 2.1, declaring it as development
stream. Tramp 2.0 is regarded as stable release since then.

Some weeks ago, RMS has asked whether we could upgrade to Tramp 2.1 in
Emacs CVS. But that is too risky; we don't want to be guilty for
further delay :-)

More seriously: there are experimental implementations like the
execution of remote commands, which are not agreed yet on emacs-devel
list. There was a short discussion about last year, but this has been
postponed until after the Emacs 22 release.
