Hello,
I have discovered (what I consider) a bug in the auth-flatfile.
I have used this directive many times on servers with many virtual
hosts.
This time I am setting up a mailserver for a single domain, but I do
not want the mail accounts to have unix logons.
so I do not want to use auth-passwd
So I just setup a password file for the email server and tried to use
auth-flatfile-passwd-file: /fullpath/to/the/passwd/file
I tried to logon using
user username
pass password
This drove me mad because I just kept getting authentication failures
which I could not trace. tried -d tried -d -v tried strace
Eventually I tried (as usual)
auth-flatfile-passwd-file: /usr/exim/virtual/$(domain)/passwd
and log on with
user address@hidden
pass password
This works fine
So
1. Why does flatfie require the use of virtual domains
2. Is there a way to do password type authentication without using
/etc/shadow and without having to include the domain in the user logon.
Thanks.

No user serviceable parts inside? Ill be the judge of that!
