The last is not so old. And there are questions on StackOverflow from
people (2013) who
want to use thise kernel
2.4.xx kernels are quite small, can be compiled by tcc in 10 seconds.
This helps to study kernel internals too.
PPS:
After solving problems with tcc on 2.4.XX kernels we can go to the
2.6.9, 2.6.18, 2.6.32
