the method you describe is recommended for freely positioning images in beamer mode.

1) Copy the image ( png or jpeg )
2) Supposing you are in the image mode ( menu Insert -> Image -> Draw image ), then use  Insert -> Text , and past the image in the text field.
3) You can resize the image, and add your own construction using TeXmacs drawing editor

Do you know any other method ?
