Dear Sam,

Verbatim text has become a mess, because there are too many blends.
I really should carefully reorganize all of it, by introducing
a more conprehensible set of primitives to work on verbatim text.
However, I have no time for this now, so I preferred to revert
to a behaviour which was at least correct in all cases.
You may manually override the default settings in your preferences though.
I also took care of the prog-mode issue (hopefully).

Best, --Joris
