Hi Joris,
I noticed that you have handled this problem in a different way in a latest commit. But there are still some problems with it and attached is a patch to make it more better. And the detail is as follow:
1. Chinese(Simplified Chinese) and Taiwanese(Traditional Chinese) usually use different fonts, since there are many characters with the same unicode encoding but with different glyphs in Chinese(Simplified Chinese) and Taiwamese(Traditional Chinese). Therefore it would be better to handle them separately. Strictly speaking, the fireflysung font is a Taiwanese font but no a Chinese font, and make it the default font for Chinese document is a longstanding mistake.
2. There are still some Windows and Linux fonts missed when setting up default CJK fonts. One thing need to be mentioned is that the MS Gothic and MS Mincho fonts are with different filenames in MacOS and Windows. They are named as "msgothic.ttf" and "msmincho.ttf" in Windows.

Hi all,
Attached is a patch which makes TeXmacs use system fonts by default for CJK documents. This would make CJK users more comfortable to use TeXmacs after installation (no need to install CJK fonts by themselves in most case).
Best.
