thanks for your analysis. This explains perfectly the bug reports
which I received some time ago and which made me to refrain from
my former policy of not distributing pk files with the texmacs package.

I would rather prefer to have a fallback method of displaying
error messages and wait messages in case the main window is not
yet created, like just popping up a window with the error message.
Don't forget that a help buffer is diplayed in case there is
no $HOME/.TeXmacs even though there might be no command line
argument. Displaying the help buffer might trigger an error
or a wait message.
