Didn't we discuss/decide to give people a configuration variable, or
something, to disable these particular warnings (this one and the one
for node names you also just committed).

I am% sure there will be tons of painful complaints otherwise, because
we already tried this warning years ago with C makeinfo and nothing has
changed since then.  If anything, the situation is worse (ie, more manuals
using the "incorrect" characters).

E.g., INFO_CHARS_WARNING (off the top of my head, probably not the best
name).
