Just adding these posts to the mailing list, I forgot to hit reply all and was only communicating with Matt.

Matt,

I really like the looks of your flip viewer. I've been using a different one but am having problems with external links when using it. I was wondering how well yours worked with external links in the swf. I was also wondering how the viewer managed pages loaded into memory and buffering of future pages. One major limitation I have seen in these viewers is that they hold all the loaded pages in memory which can become a big hog on larger magazines. I have also found that not many viewers preload the next couple of pages which would increase user experience. One glitch I did notice in your viewer is that the page loses the 'crease' shadow when the page flipping effect starts.

I also have a few suggestions from my experiences:

1) Add buttons to allow the user to quickly jump to the first and last pages.
2) The thumnal view feature is a bit counter intuitive to use in my opinion. The whole view changes when I move my mouse up or down. I would remove the auto scroll feature and add a slider bar on the right. I also found the thumbs up icon to be misleading as I had no idea what it was supposed to do.
3) I find the magnifying glass to be distracting. I would not use it there and instead add a control button that enabled zoom mode. I just don't like that zoom mode is enabled automatically.
4) Add full screen capability to both the viewer and the page. An example of what I'm referring to can be seen on http://westindiespublishing.com/index.php/magazines?id=18&view=single The viewer can go fullscreen but the page size is fixed (desired) but you can also click the filled in magnifying glass on the top toolbar to view the page in fullscreen mode inside of the viewer.
5) Allow specifying background images to use in a xml file to achieve similar results as the above example shows with the sand.

As I said before, this is a really great implementation of a flip viewer. I look forward to seeing more!

Thanks for hijacking my thread.  Roger, since you've been so helpful to me, here are two players I'll be releasing open source shortly.  One is single frame one is flip, both are load on demand.

be proactive, just like you have been with the wiki. ;o)

As to viewers that are already out there, well the source code for
many of them is
available to all who care to look.   Have you downloaded and started on one yet?
Cris, well I'm sure he knows exactly what you want to do with his viewer!

Oh, and ever so coincidentally,  please don't use CAPS, there's a good
chap.  I'm not deaf
you know.  Save that, excitable chap that you are Roger,  for your
mobile phone conversations.

PS  Way off topic, and verging into the jocular and ribald no less!
Enough List noise I think, yes?  ;o)
