I am currently setting up on unix instead and also, as James Marshall has said,
i have been thinking about using Sun's JVM to compile and run swarm apps. It
would seem more manageable.

All that's needed is the /Swarm-2.2/bin directory in the PATH and the swarm.jar in the CLASSPATH. On Windows, the jdkcswarm and jdkswarm scripts are meant to be Sun JDK counterparts to the (Kaffe) javacswarm and javaswarm. (Kaffe was included in the distribution since it has a compatible license and source code, not for performance reasons or for its feature set.)

You might have to tweak the former set of scripts with your editor to get the version of the Sun JDK you want.
