I found it in our gcc-2.95.2 source distribution, but it was in a
directory where the README said the contents were 'obsolete, deprecated
and definitely not to be used.'  The default install of gcc did not
install it.

I will update the hdf5 as suggested.

Currently the libraries compile once gperf is in my path and HDF5Object.m
patched.  However, I am currently trying to get the test routines to
compile.  LD seems to have gone feral on me.  It insists it can't find the
symbol swarm_lookup_module, but nm has no problem finding it in the
libdefobj.a which is listed in the link instruction.  IMO this is some
problem with gcc on our Alpha box.  We will work on it.
