Sorry to have misled you, I forgot to mention that the xprint and xfprint
problem creep up in _gdb_ , not if called from code. While the macros are
undoubtedly still useful when hardcoded, I got the real milage out of them
in gdb in the olden days. So I want them back, bu hu...

PS. I'm using the Debian gdb 4.17 with (useless) Objective-C patches (aka
gdb 4.17.m68k.objc.threads.hwwp.fpu.gnat) which simply ignores 'call
xprint(obj) or 'xfprint(collection)'.
My older patched gdb 4.16 (the one on the Swarm ftp site) says:
(gdb) call xfprint(collection)
evaluation of this expression requires the program to have a function
"objc_lookup_class"
