To make you code more copy-able, replace `MyObject * obj'
definition with `id obj' but then you probably won't be

The object phase concepts are discussed generally in the
defobj library documentation and the "Library Interface
Conventions" appendix; the GridTurtle example illustrates
the intended usage. A more detailed explanation of how to
use the phase mechanisms probably belongs in the "Advanced
Usage Guide" which is (quite understandably) incomplete.
I take the pragmatic ("When in Rome...") approach to using
the object phase conventions. =;-)
