Just a quick note to save others a problem. Redhat 5.1 has objc for
ecgs, not gcc. Further, that version of objc has thread features that
require some detail in the ./configure statment. If you have done
this wrong, and want to try again, I'd recommend erasing the swarm-1.2
directory and untarring again. IT seems to want to remember your
mistakes. The appropriate configure command on my system was
(this is typed after the $ prompt ALL ON ONE LINE)
$ CC=egcs LIBS=-lpthread ./configure
--with-tclobjcdir=/swarm/packages/tclobjc-1.3/
--with-bltdir=/swarm/packages/blt8.0-unoff/blt8.0-unoff/
--with-ffidir=/swarm/packages/libffi-1.17/
As you see, I've got the swarm supplemental things stored in
/swarm/packages, as advised in the online faq. The isntallation
of those packages still follows the procedures given in the online faq
for swarm-1.1.
Please, don't forget to change your SWARMHOME environment variable when
you try to use the new swarm!
See ya later
