Objective C and C++

The NeXT manual on objective C states that the language may be used as
an extension to C++.  I have not been able to do this on the GNU
compiler.  The web link at :
http://www.csis.gvsu.edu/~erickson/HSES/3-2_ObjCSection.html#sect3.2.7
seems to indicate that this mix of languages is not supported by the GNU
compiler.  Does anyone know for sure if it is possible to use existing
C++ libraries with Swarm simulations?  (I want to use GALib)
