Hello,

My name is Aritra Biswas. I am currently studying B.Sc Artificial
Intelligence at Radboud University in the Netherlands. I have also studied
a year of Computer Science prior to this.

It is my first time getting started with open source contributions. I have
knowledge in Python, C, C++ and have interest in OS and kernel development.
I am also an advocate for software privacy and basic human rights related
to individual freedom.

Would you be kind enough to guide me as to how to get started for the next
GSoC perhaps?

Regards,
Aritra Biswas

Hi Aritra and Kishan!

As Bastien wrote in reply to Kishan (which you would see if you subscribed to this list which may not be the case) - the right thing would be to reach out for GNU projects that do GSOC and work in areas that you are interested in.

It is *definitely* good to handle this now instead of starting late, this also provides you with the time to find something you are really interested in, even with the option to check with multiple projects.

In any case You'd start from
   https://www.gnu.org/software/soc-projects/guidelines.html
to have a general idea.
This also leads you to
   https://www.gnu.org/software/soc-projects/ideas-2024.html

(some of these project ideas were done in the GSOC 2024 iteration, others not).

"short advertisement"
If you are interested in C (and for the compiler bison/flex) and/or COBOL, we can find something for you in GnuCOBOL :-)
For C / Java there are also things to do, especially on the runtime side.

Happy Hacking and best wishes for your GSOC 2025!
Simon
